BC Business in 2018 published quite a list of women in British Columbia active and influential in science, technology, engineering and math. (BCBusiness.ca, no date)

Yes, things have changed, but still, according to Status of Women Canada, "In Canada, only a third of graduates in STEM are women, a difference that’s magnified in fields such as engineering and computer science."

Status of Women Canada has a 'Learning Toolkit' aimed at teachers, but likely useful to parents and others interested in supporting and encouraging women and girls to enter these fields.

And certainly supporting local activities and events sponsored by groups like The Society for Canadian Women In Science and Technology (SCWIST), BC Women in Technology (BCWit), Westcoast Women in Engineering, Science and Technology (WWEST) and Island Women in Science and Technology (IWIST) will promote positive action.

Internationally, IWD's theme for 2019 is #BalanceforBetter

How can you help forge a more gender-balanced world?

International Women's Day - 2009

Today is International Women's Day!

The United Nations recognizes International Women's Day (IWD) and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon last year designated a multi-year " campaign calling on people and governments the world over to unite to end violence against women and girls. The campaign will run through 2015, the target date for achieving the Millennium Development Goals. The link with the Goals is clear. We must stop the habitual and socially ingrained violence that mars lives, destroys health, perpetuates poverty and prevents us from achieving women’s equality and empowerment...."
